“You can hear love, intention, generosity, humor and soul in the music of Erynn Marshall and Carl Jones. They welcome us in and awaken a deep sense and feeling for traditional music that is carved right into our bones.” – Dirk Powell (2015)
Erynn Marshall is an old-time fiddler who resides in Galax, Virginia. She has played for over 30 years, performed and taught at many music camps & other venues in the US, Canada and England. She won 1st place in fiddle at “Clifftop” and was the first woman to do so. She has recorded 7 CDs including the 2017 release Old-Time Jubilations with the Galax Bogtrotters – a string band from Galax, Virginia.
I first heard her music when she was living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia and collaborating with the great Canadian claw-hammer banjo player Chris Coole and the string band The Haints with Pharis & Jason Romero. Since then she’s moved out to Appalachia to work at the Blue Ridge Music Center in Galax, VA. Making her home there, she married the esteemed old-time guitarist/mandolinist and singer Carl Jones, and has continued to make some of the best Appalachian old-time music in North America.
She has released six albums under her own name:
